Dead Heat is a game made by Racing Enthusiasts for Racing Enthusiasts. We believe that the main goal in making a racing game, is to get the user as close as possible to actually driving the car. We have accomplished this by replicating not only the basics of the vehicle's performance (such as ensuring that cornering, acceleration and deceleration are extremely realistic), but also that the cars 'feel' as they do in real life. To achieve this realism, we did several things (please bear with us if we get a little technical here!)

Firstly, power and torque curves were used to compute how the given car accelerates. We then used real life acceleration data from the vehicles to ensure that each car accelerated in precisely the same way as the car it was based upon. As a result, all cars in game accelerate exactly as their real life counterparts do from 0-100km/h, 0/100mph, and over the quarter mile.

Secondly, we precisely modelled the vehicles, and accurately inputted the vehicles wheel locations. We then combined this with per wheel traction analysis, in order to ensure that oversteer and understeer, as well as the balance and feel of the vehicles was extremely accurate. As a result, the feel of the vehicles in game is very accurate, and drifting is very realistic. Finally, we simulated driver aids such as Traction Control and Anti-Lock Braking in order to allow for greater controllability at any speed.

Thirdly, we extrapolated known G-force thresholds of the individual vehicles, by using calculations derived from how downforce affects handling. This allowed us to set the benchmark, and very realistically compute what cornering G-force thresholds the cars should be able to achieve, which provided us with the basis for our traction circle, and allowed us to implement extremely realistic cornering.

However, a realistic driving experience was not our only focus when making Dead Heat. We also painstakingly detailed the models of the cars and the racetracks, using blueprints, satellite images, photographs and videos. As a result, the tracks in Dead Heat are very accurate models of what you would be racing on in real life, and the vehicle models in game are accurately modelled on the cars on which they are based.

As a result, we feel confident in saying that in many ways this is the game by which other racing games should be judged! Check out the new demo.
